Suggesting a helpful book or books about the bible will always be subjective.

Someone who is a rigourously honest and refreshing guide to the bible is Tom Wright.  He writes (and speaks) with clarity, humour and lively illustrations about Christian faith and how it impinges on today's world challenges!

Dr Tom Wright is a leading New Testament scholar and historian. Formerly Bishop of Durham, he is now Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity, University of St. Andrews Scotland.

He has a remarkable ability to make clear the whole story of God's purpose for our world. Who Jesus is, and what God's rule (kingdom) means. And what God is working to achieve in and through us by his Spirit.
